Picture1As the profession’s charity, Pharmacist Support relies heavily on a dedicated team of volunteers to support its work. At the beginning of 2021, the charity announced plans to enhance its volunteer schemes to ensure that they reflect the diverse experiences, backgrounds and needs of all in their pharmacy family. In recognition of Volunteers Week (June 1-7th) the charity is delighted to kick start its volunteer focused activity with the announcement of four Trustee vacancies and an opportunity for anyone interested to get involved.

Volunteers’ Week recognises the vital contribution millions of people make across the UK and is committed to supporting, enabling and championing volunteering in all its forms. Pharmacist Support is delighted to take part and welcomes interest from individuals of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, and levels of experience, keen to share their expertise and join its team of experienced and dedicated Trustees, volunteers, and staff.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a passion for supporting people across our pharmacy family” commented Pharmacist Support Chief Executive Danielle Hunt.

“As an organisation we not only want to ensure our services reflect the needs of and are accessible to all in our Pharmacy family, but that the makeup and skills of our team also reflect this diversity. We’re keen to highlight that ‘lived’ experience is more important than previous Board or Trustee experience as full training will be given.

“With an exciting five-year strategy in place, the charity is in a really exciting period of development. We encourage anyone who feels they could contribute to our dynamic and innovative charity, to get in touch.”

Pharmacist Support is looking to recruit a total of four trustees to its Board, up to three of whom could be pharmacists with the remaining positions filled by lay trustees (individuals from outside the world of pharmacy who bring key skills and life experiences). Interested applicants would need to be able to commit to approximately a day of their time per month for quarterly board and subcommittee meetings, however for Officers and committee members this may be higher.

The role of the Trustee is to ensure the charity complies with its governing documents and legislation and pursues its stated objectives always acting in the best interests of its beneficiaries. The Board is also responsible for ensuring the charity applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its stated objectives and defining strategic direction and overall policy setting, as well as monitoring and evaluating performance.

Further information on these voluntary positions, including trustee responsibilities, person specification and the application process can be found on the charity’s website: https://pharmacistsupport.org/about-us/work-for-us/trustees/

The closing date for applications is Monday 2nd August 2021 at 12 noon.  Interviews will be held in Manchester on Wednesday 29th September and Friday 1st October 2021.
